Roy Follows joined the Malay Police Force in May 1952 at the height of the "Emergency"; a bitter ten-year campaign against terrorists. He was 22, and had no experience of jungle warfare.
During the Malay Emergency of the 1950s it was said that a man would spent an average of 700 hours jungle-bashing before he fought and killed his first terrorist. This book is primarily concerned with the 701st hour, when a small and very tough band of Malays and Chinese led by a British officer, would find their prey - and go in for the kill.
Roy Follows has written a humane, but honest and authentic account of jungle warfare during a murderous epoch.
