FLUGZEUG Profile No. 55: Heinkel He 280 - Manfred Franzke
Heinkel He 280 - The first jet engined fighter plane of the world
It is truly hard to believe that Germany brought a two engine turbine fighter into the air in March 1941. This unique technological advance was not realized by several engineers. Problems with and the fear of a new technology might have played a role. So this aircraft could never play a decisive part in the fast advancing war technology. Years thereafter with the Messerschmitt Me 262 Germany managed to bring a twin engine fighter to production status.
