First fielded in 1998, the Challenger 2 main battle tank is today the main weapon system in armoured regiments of the British Army, and the only weapon system of its kind in service with the British Armed Forces. Since it entered service, the Challenger 2 has proved itself during the peace support operation in Kosovo with KFOR from 2000 onwards, conventional warfare operations in Iraq under Operation Telic in 2003, and counterinsurgency operations in Iraq under Operation Telic between 2003 and 2009.
